Message from Watson L. Haynes, II President & CEO
Welcome to the Pinellas County Urban League. I am delighted to serve as the President & CEO of this great organization and stand committed to make a difference in meeting the needs of our entire community. I am honored that local businesses, state government, local funding sources, religious groups and individuals all support the mission of the Urban League through their unwavering commitment that has afforded us the opportunity to expand over the years. In addition, I am pleased with the growth of three of our signature programs, Guild, the NULITES (National Urban League Incentives to Excel and Succeed) and Young Professionals.
I am committed to work diligently with a very dedicated Board of Directors, staff and volunteers as we embark on an enhanced vision and plan for the organization. The focus of the Pinellas County Urban League in the coming months:
- Ensure that our children are well educated and equipped for economic self-reliance in the 21st century
- Help adults attain economic self-sufficiency through good jobs, home ownership, entrepreneurship and wealth accumulation
- Ensure our civil rights by eradicating all barriers to equal participation in the economic and social mainstream of America.
Although we have touched thousands of lives since our inception in 1978, we encourage you to join our efforts and help make a difference in our growing service area. For over a century, the National Urban League has been improving the lives of citizens in the areas of youth development, health, education, community empowerment, employment opportunities and crime prevention. All across the nation, Urban League affiliates have been tirelessly engaged and unswerving in their efforts to serve the disadvantaged in their communities. Locally, our Urban League affiliate has been providing empowerment opportunities and we value our key stakeholders who have been providing the financial wherewithal to help us succeed.
Despite the tireless and often heroic efforts of many committed groups and individuals, we as an American democracy, still have much work to do. We strongly believe that through equality, opportunity and achievement, prosperity will come. Your continued patronage is critical to the League's future success in providing opportunities for the disadvantaged of our community. Through the implementation of our Empowerment Agenda we seek to transform, revitalize, and further develop the expanding communities that we serve. I certainly look forward to leading our organization during this amazing renaissance opportunity.
Thank you for answering the call of action to Empower Communities and Change Lives!
